This Memorial, inaugurated in 2000, commemorates the people of the Commonwealth that gave their lives to the ail of Britain in the two World Wars of the Twentieth Century. The Memorial takes form of a ‘gateway’, framing the wellington Arch when viewed along constitution Hill from Buckingham Palace. The gate piers and hexagonal pavilions are in Portland Stone. Urns, street lights, railings and bollards are in bronze. The highway is paved in large granite cobbles. The urns are lit on Commonwealth day and Remembrance Sunday each year.
